WILD JEWELS …
GOING THE EXTRA MILE, GOING TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH.

HI FRIENDS

Just a quick update to say hello to you all and share a little about what is going on with Wild Jewels.

I have just come back from being in Santa Barbara where over Fiesta Weekend I did a pop-up at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art store. It was a great weekend to be in town and the show was super successful.

Here is the half page article that was in the Santa Barbara News Press about Wild Jewels and our foundation work.  It was written by the great Marilyn McMahon, who is an iconic Santa Barbara journalist.  I have also added in some photos that appeared in a couple of recent additions of the Vogue Knitting magazine (New York).

As you are aware Wild Jewels is a major supporter of our Foundation that we formed in honor of our brother Mick, whom we lost to cancer back in 2004. Liza was in Ileret in the Northern Frontier of Kenya over June/July 2014 working on The Michael Cronhelm Foundation Trust educational projects. She had a hugely successful trip and more books were added to the MCFT library. Our new project in this area is we are now running the El Bokoch Primary School and in 2015 will expand the school by building additional classrooms.

One story stands out in my mind from her trip … Liza said she walked into the classroom and to her amazement all of the children’s desks were covered in small stones. The teachers explained that all year there had been no notebooks and pencils, so they had resorted to using stones so the children could continue their writing and arithmetic lessons. On behalf of The MCFT Liza was able to provide the children with notebooks, pencils and teaching materials.  All handed out in a ceremony with the Elders, who loved being a part of this special moment. At the same time two ton of beans and maize were delivered so the children could continue to have a much needed after class meal to sustain them on their long walk home.

So with that warm and fuzzy feeling I get when I think about those children in the very north of Kenya I will sign off.  To all of you whom have supported Wild Jewels, either by a kind word, purchasing our jewelry, or attending one of our slideshow lectures I would like to say thank you.
